Joshua Tree Astro Photos 1/11

In late January, I went out to Joshua Tree National Park for several nights with a fellow amateur astronomer, Jerry Day.  I decided to try out a new "autoguider" (used to lock the telescope onto a star). These are two of the images I captured those nights. I used a Canon 50D mounted on a 600mm refractor telescope, polar aligned and guided, shot at prime focus for about ten minutes at ISO 800, yielding 12X magnification.
HORSEHEAD NEBULA

Horsehead Nebula (IC434) is located in the Orion Constellation, 1500 light years from Earth.

ROSETTE NEBULA
The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) is located in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. It is about 5200 light years from Earth and has a diameter of 130 light years. Very Large!
